Motive
Markov made broadcasts mocking dictator Todor Zhikov while he was
writing for BBC World News.
Which made the communist government upset.
Suspect
Francesco Gullino was the primary suspect who was tracked down after 35
years of murder in Austria. Investigators suspected him at that time because
he was the only agent at the time of Markov’s murder. He left the place after
the day of Markov’s murder and later received a payment of 30,000 euros
from the agency he worked for. He didn’t admit the accusation. Hence, the
case is still open, and no one was arrested in this case.
